Probably the easiest way to degrease the range hood filter it is to use oven cleaner spray. Just spray the filter and leave it overnight to soak, in a tray or on old newspapers. Afterwards, just rinse and place it in the dishwasher.
I checked the manufacturer's website, and Easy-Off is relatively safe on aluminum, here's what they say:
