Vaccuum them to remove dust and wash them with a sponge dipped in a mild detergent solution. Squeeze out excess water and rinse the sponge as soon as it gets dirty. Always wash the walls from the bottom up to keep detergent from running down onto a dirty surface.

Second, a solution designed to break down the underlying adhesive should be applied. Commercial solutions are available for this purpose, but some advocate using solutions made of common household items ranging from vinegar to fabric softener instead. After waiting a period of between five and twenty minutes, depending on the solution used, the wallpaper should be ready to strip from the walls. What type of wallpaper is easy to clean?
Glossier, untextured wallpaper is easy to clean. If you anticipate stains or a harsh environment in your room (for instance kitchen use, or a child's bedroom), it's best to avoid textured wallpaper. Some wallpaper has a "velvet-like" finish, this would be a very bad choice for a room which may be subjected to spills, stains, or crayons! A darker, patterned wallpaper will also be less likely to show a stain in the event that it cannot be removed.
