To close an app completely on iPads, iPhone 4 double click the home button and all the apps you have gone on will appear at the bottom press and hold any of those apps and they will start to wiggle and an X will appear on the app press that and the app will close properly, don't worry it DOES NOT delete the app, doing this will also make the device faster as the app is no longer running in the background, do thus regularly to keep the device from slowing. If you wish to delete apps press and hold the app and it will wiggle and an X will appear press that and the device will ask you if you wish to delete the app or not.
