the simplest answer is that when you purchase the after market "cold air intake" there will be instructions with it. If you intend to make one your self then I would suggest just taking everything out and, get a cone style K&N air filter or, something comparable to attach directly to the throttle body.
Remove the air intake, throttle cables, and throttle body. Remove vacuum lines then unbolt and remove the upper intake. Remove the fuel rails. Unbolt the lower intake and remove the intake to replace the gasket. Reverse the process to finish the installation.
The only fix for a bad intake gasket is to remove the intake manifold and replace the gasket.

For a 2002 MDX, there are four screws to remove the cover. Then remove the spring ring holding the intake hose. Remove the cover and replace the air filter. Replace the cover and screws and then reconnect the intake hose and spring ring.
YES you do have to remove it all the way. There are 2 knock sensors under the intake.
this is crazy as hell but,the starter is under the intake manifold directly in the center of the motor.so remove intake manifold and then remove and replace starter.not hard ,just time consuming.
