If they are the same as a 97 Maxima then you twist them, don't compress them. To compress the piston you do it with a 'Disk Brake Piston Tool'. You can get this at Pep Boys for $12. To compress the piston on the passenger side you turn the piston clockwise. To compress the piston on the driver side you turn the piston counter-clockwise.
Be careful trying to turn the piston using pliers or some other tool as you may tear the rubber seal around the piston.
the piston on the rear calipers will turn in a clockwise motion and that is how they retract.
no
No need to rotate the front caliper pistons as you compress the front calipers. That process is only for the rear calipers because of the parking brake mechanism.
You will need the tool to retract the calipers. The piston in the rear calipers have to be turned clockwise as you compress them back in.
you take a pair of plyers or a caliper kit from autozone and turn in the calipers. You have to turn them clockwise to make them go back in. do not try and compress them in, you will damage them.
are u trying to change them?
Yes. If your question is regarding the operation of the calipers. They do operate in the same manner as the front calipers.
Try exerting pressure while turning clockwise to retract
they make a tool for it that you should be able to buy at any parts store, i was able to use a pair of needle-nose pliers, open the pliers and put the tips into the notches on the inside of the caliper piston, turning clockwise will compress the piston.
with a large pear of channel locks,or a caliper compressor
The rear brake calipers screw back in. This is because of the park brake. There is a tool that you can either buy or rent from one of the larger parts stores.
It requires a special tool to twist the piston back into the caliper.
