You need to buy a wireless router. Whether it be an internal or external, you need that to pick up the signal to your base or home network. Then if you don't already have WiFi built into your laptop, you also need that too. You can buy that also to plug into a USB port on the laptop.
1. Get an ethernet called a "crossover cable."
2. Connect the ethernet jack of the PC to the jack on the laptop.
3. Right click on the folder you want to view on the PC and select "sharing". Enable sharing.
4. Browse your local network from the laptop. Navigate to that folder.
Note, you may have to fiddle with the network settings before they "see' each other.
This depends on how you want to "connect" them. If you install and configure Samba on the laptop, it can share files with Windows.
