The 3DS will need to be set up for WEP encryption. Despite the 3DS being able to use WPA for its own browser, the encryption is usually hard coded into the games themselves. That means unless you're playing a DSi-Enhanced title such as Pokemon Black or White, you're forcd to use WEP for other DS games.
