: Replace the main panel breaker feeding the subpanel with a 30 amp breaker if it is currently larger (50A typical). Then you should be able to change your subpanel's 2 pole breaker to a couple of single pole 30A breakers. Use one of the single 30's for your 30A receptacle.

: : : : IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB : SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY : REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS. : If you do this work yourself, always turn off the power at the breaker box/fuse panel BEFORE you attempt to do any work AND always use an electrician's test meter having metal-tipped probes (not a simple proximity voltage indicator) to insure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

You have 4 outlets in a bedroom only outputting 10 volts instead of 120 what could cause this?

Circuit breaker or fuse supplying those outlets may be tripped or blown. Wiring from fuse or breaker box may be open. If the outlets are all in the same group, then they are fed from a single set of interior wiring. All may be dead if a single wire is disconnected inside the outlet box. Shut off power, remove the cover plate from the outlet box, put at least one hand in your pocket, and LOOK around inside the outlet box for a disconnected or broken wire.

How can you wire a 110V plug outlet from a 240V plug outlet not speaking of a converter but actually changing the plug outlet so that there are no long term effects on the 120V appliance?

Assuming the wiring to the outlet has 2 loads and one neutral, isolate one load from the outlet and use the neutral as the common. be sure to ground from the receptacle to your conduit or ground lead. You should also replace the corresponding breaker with a 120 volt single breaker.

Why would a 30A-250V outlet still have power with breaker off?

It sounds like the breaker is unserviceable. Seeing as it supplies 240 volt outlet it must be a two pole breaker. If it is a single handle two pole breaker then one pole set inside the breaker is not disconnecting one of the lines. If it is supplied from two single pole breakers that has a common tie, the common tie might be loose and does not shut off both poles when thrown to the off position. If there is no common tie then both breakers must be turned off to interrupt the 240 volt supply.

What is a dedicated outlet?

A dedicated outlet is a single circuit from a single or double pole breaker to a specific outlet or receptacle for a single specific device or appliance. An example of this would be a circuit for a refrigerator, microwave, dryer, range, etc..This is typically referred to as a "dedicated circuit". A dedicated circuit usually is supplying power to only one or perhaps two receptacles, such as a computer station. An example in your home under current code is your washing machine is required to be on a dedicated circuit. Dedicated receptacle circuits may be either 15 or 20 amp.A dedicated circuit is just what it sounds like. I'ts a circuit dedicated to one particular device. Most receptacle (you may call them outlet's) circuits will power several outlets. A dedicated circuit will power only one specific outlet or appliance. Some examples would be a refrigerator, a garbage disposal, or a microwave.

How can you wire a normal 120V outlet out of a double pole circuit breaker?

well, the easy answer is, black wire to one pole of the breaker, white wire to the neutral bus with all the other white wires, bare wire to the ground bus with all the other bare (or green) wires. BUT the breaker must be 20 amps or less for residential outlets and you much match the wire size to the breaker, #14 for 15 amp breaker, #12 for a 20 amp breaker AND if there is only going to be one outlet, if it is a 20 amp circuit, the outlet has to be rated for 20 amps. Yes, but why would you want to? It is unclear to anybody else what you are doing and therefore a hazard. Do it right. Use a single pole breaker designed for 110V.

How can you convert a 220 into a 110 volt power outlet?

The 220 volt outlet get remove and a 100 outlet gets installed. The wire hook up is the same. The breaker that feeds the outlet need to be change aswell from a double pole to a single pole breaker. +++ How does that work? If you convert a supply from 220V to 110V you would draw twice the current for the same watts, risking the wires overheating and causing a fire assuming the circuit-breaker didn't trip first. You'd need to change a lot more than the breaker too. My advice? DON'T!

How do you install and wire a dryer outlet if there is no room for a new 30 amp breaker?

If your breaker box will accept tandom breakers you can remove 4 single pole breakers add 2 tandoms this will empty 2 spaces for your 2 pole 30 amp for the dryer

How can you plug in 120V appliances such as a TV and VCR to an old 240V air-conditioning outlet with one white one black and one grounding?

At the breaker box the black and white will be on a double-pole breaker (or maybe even two separate breakers). To convert to 110V attach the black to a single pole 15 amp breaker, the white to the neutral bus bar (like all the other whites in there) and the ground to the grounding bar (like the other grounds). Then replace the receptacle with a regular 15amp 110V.

Is it good to have an octopus connection?

Generally, no. We usually try to avoid having a lot of things plugged into one outlet, which is the usual meaning of "octopus connection" when we talk about things electrical. If we get a lot of stuff plugged into one outlet or a single outlet strip, we could approach (or exceed) the current rating on the outlet and end up tripping a circuit breaker. Less things plugged in is better.

Can you use a 60 amp breaker for a airconditioner with heat instead of two thirty amp breakers?

No. If your AC is currently running on a 30 amp 2 pole breaker, then it is a 220 volt unit. You cannot substitute one 60 amp single pole breaker as you'll only be supplying 110 volts and the AC unit won't work. In fact you could damage it.

Why is there a limit to the number of devices that may be connected to a single electrical outlet?

The cabling to the outlet can only handle a maximum power. For safety reasons, this is limited to far below the fail level by a fuse or circuit breaker. If you exceed the power rating, you run the risk of causing a fire.

What kind of a GE circuit breaker can you use in place of a GE tandem breaker?

A GE tandem breaker can be removed and replaced with a GE single pole breaker.
