By following the steps of the "Scientific Method" as follows:
1. Ask a question (i.e. what happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar?)
2. Do background research (i.e. find what is used to make up those substances and find out how they react with one another)
3. Construct a Hypothesis (in layman terms, this means you guess what will happen...if you guess and it's wrong, it is still technically a hypothesis)
4. Test your hypothesis by doing an experiment (mix baking soda and vinegar)
5. Analyze your data, and draw a conclusion (in this case, your data would show that it reacts by fizzing up...thought I'm sure you could make it sound more scientific)
6. Communicate your results
