How do you create a name for a book series?

Choose something that resembles the theme. You can also pick a word that holds a lot of meaning and/or is a very big staple in the series that's somewhat underlying. Pretty much just whatever comes to you. You can make up your own word. Start by thinking of an average word such as apple then mix some letters around or throw in some extra vowels (Aplex, Appen, Aplerid), and there you go. Make sure you express somehow in the story what the word means.
