Nicknames are one of those annoying things that you can't create. They sort of just find you. Usually, a common rule for nicknames happens when your real name is more than one syllable long, eg. Maddeline. Break it up into syllables (madd-e-line). Now add a 'y' to the end of the first syllable and you get Maddy.
