After the car starts and immediately stalls and goes dead, just leave the key on and wait about 15 mins. , then turn the key off , then start the car. You may have to try this a few times if you dont wait long enough. (I'm not sure of this part but dont do anything electrical such as open doors, push brakes, blow horn, ect...)
Remove the fuse. smokingallowed say's: Removing the fuse will only erase the memory from the computer, and it will have to relearn what it should know. It will not reset the theft system. Here's how to reset the theft system. Roll the window down,(if power windows, turn the key off again)reach thru the window and try to start the car. When it don't start just leave the key on for around 20 minuets or so. If you dont leave it on long enough you will have to go through this waiting period again, but 20 mins. should do the trick. Then turn the key off for about 30 seconds, then start the car. P.S. Dont do anything electrical, like, push the brakes, open the door, mess with the radio. Just reach through the window to turn the key. I own three z24's... 97'97'99...On 2 of them('97 & '99) the theft system light will flash when it is activated and stop flasing after 20 mins. when it is reset, but the 3rd car('97) theft system light will not flash, just be lit and go off after the car is started.

Im not exactly sure what you're asking but I will try to tell you what I think might help. If someone has tampered with your vehicle, your fuel pump will shut itself off to prevent theft. So if your vehicle is starting up and running for a split second then stalling out, you might have had someone tampering with it (I know from experience). Just unhook both battery terminals for a couple minutes to give your computer plenty of time to clear itself. Reconnect the terminals and you should be in business. Anytime you have computer probs like anti-theft and sensors, unhooking your battery and rehooking it will reset your computer. Sometimes that will work. If the anti theft light is flashing what you need to do is appy the emergency brake and start the the car and let it stall. The anti theft light will start to flash. Do not touch anything!!! Within 10-15 mins the light will light solid and you are safe to start and drive.

It keeps a thief from ripping out the keyhole with a slide hammer and starting it with a screwdriver. There is a chip on the key lock cylinder and the cylinder MUST be turned. The key lock at autozone is $150 so dont lose your key. If it ever gets replaced, the theft system has to be reset by trying to start the car...it will stall and go dead...just leave the key on about 10 mins. until the light stops flashing...turn the key off...then start the car. The computer shuts down the fuel injectors.
That is true on one of my 97 Chevy cavalier z24,but not with the other 2. (97 & 99) On mine, I just leave the key on for 15-20 mins. turn off key, then restart.
It is on the accumulator.

Leave the key on for 15 or 20 mins. until the theft system light stops flashing, turn the key off and you should be good to go. One tip...dont do anything electrical (i.e. open doors, push brakes,lights,radio,ect...)
yes i but a 2001 2.4 in a 1997 z24
2000 and up Cavalier and Sunfire stock radios work with the cars VIN number as a theft deterrent. It needs to be reset at a dealer.
