How do you define Volcanology?
Volcanology (also spelled vulcanology) is the study of volcanoes, lava, magma and related geological phenomena. A volcanologist (also spelled vulcanologist) is a person who studies in this field. The term volcanology is derived from the Latin word vulcan, the Roman god of fire. Volcanologists frequently visit volcanoes, especially active ones, to observe volcanic eruptions, collect eruptive products including tephra (such as ash or pumice), rock and lava samples. One major focus of enquiry is the prediction of eruptions; there is currently no accurate way to do this, but predicting eruptions, like predicting earthquakes, could save a lot of lives. A volcanolgist (also spelled vulcanologist) studies the formations of volcanoes and the current and historic eruptions of them.
To study volcanoes, its best to start with Geology, and then move on to Volcanology, like I have, im going to university next year to study geology which volcanology is included, a lot of universities do geology, and some colleges offer it as an AS aswell, its all about researching different places really
Volcanology is related to other branches of science in that first of all it pertains to geology and geological phenomona. Through geology, we see that the ashes left over from a volcanoe which has erupted actually causes an abundance of plants to grow hence botany and with there being a large amount of flora, there is an increase of animals(zoology).
