I found that the following worked:
- Make sure that you are logged into Facebook mobile on the BB
- from the messages list press the BB key to bring up menu
- select "View Folder"
- scroll to Facebook Messages
- select the folder( you will see a list of messages, and "Facebook Messages" above the list
- scroll to the message you want to delete ( dont open it as this takes you out of the folder)
- press "del" key and select delete from pop up
