Open a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) application. Most web hosts allow users to publish, modify and delete files using an FTP interface. Although deleting a page through command-line FTP access is fairly simple, many modern users prefer to use one of the many graphical FTP programs freely available on the Internet.

Access the web server. Your web server should have supplied an FTP address, a username and a password to use when accessing your site. In the address bar of your FTP program, or from the "Connect" menu item, enter the FTP address and click "Connect." When the application prompts you for your username and password, enter the login credentials your web host service provider supplied.

Navigate to the proper directory. If the web page you want to delete resides in a subdirectory, navigate to that directory by double-clicking the directory name in the FTP application. If the page resides at the top level or root directory, you may not need to access a subdirectory.

Click on the name of the page you want to delete. Find the file name of the page you want to delete, and click it once to highlight it. Web-page files usually end with an extension like .htm or .html, and default pages may have a name like "Index.html," but only you know the precise name of your web-page file.

Delete the file. With the file name highlighted, press the "Delete" key on your computer's keyboard to remove the file. (Depending on your FTP application, you may need to right-click the file and select "Delete" instead.) The FTP application may prompt you to confirm that you really want to delete the file. If a confirmation box appears, answer affirmatively to remove the file.

Remove any associated files. Web pages often have a number of graphics, video and sound files that add to the content of the page. If your page called any of these component files--especially files ending in .jpg, .gif, .mov, .mp3, .avi or .bmp---repeat the preceding steps to delete these files as well.

Close your FTP application. Close your FTP connection and application by clicking the red "X" in the upper-right corner of the window on a Windows or Linux PC, or by pressing Command + Q on a Macintosh. After the connection to your web host terminates, your web page is deleted and is no longer available to websitevisitors.
