What is a numinous experience?
A numinous experience, not to be confused with a numerous experience (a reoccurring event), is a supernatural, or mystical occurrence, usually subjective and ineffable. Visions, hearing voices, feeling of inexplicable joy etc, or a sense of oneness with nature come under numinous experiences. The term was coined by Rudolf Otto to describe the experience humans have when they encounter the sheer holiness of God.
