i am working for more than two years as a cashiers in a restaurant, and even if i was already promoted as a supervisor im still the one who handle the money specially cash which is more than 200,000 php. I was responsible to recount/check the money and deposit them at the nearest bank from my store. I have to make sure that no out of balance and secured that the cash box is lock when im not around. Because it's my responsibility to make sure that i am handling the company's money well. I was also responsible handling the store petty cash which i manage it very well from week to week summary to reimbursement of money so i can always support the shortage of the store expenses.
The answer depends on the store's policy on processing credit card transactions. Every merchant that accepts credit cards has a policy concerning how they choose to authenticate credit cards. Generally, the more checks that the merchant does, the lower the cost of the transaction for that merchant. Many retail stores (suggesting store clerks) do check the three security numbers on the back and enter that information into the register/reader when conducting the transaction. Having those three numbers helps indicate that the transaction was done with "card in possession." IF you are not sure that a store clerk is handling your credit card correctly, ask to speak with a store manager and ask the process that they use to process a credit card transaction at the register.
