To determine the ampere-hour rating of a battery, read the label on the battery or consult the manufacturer's specifications for the battery. That is the best way. It is also possible to measure it, but you will be using up capacity on the battery and, if it is non-rechargeable, that will exhaust the battery.

First, decide what the discharged state is. This could be a certain voltage under load, the inability to provide a certain current, or (best in the case of a lead-acid battery) the specific gravity of the electrolyte. In a typical 12V lead-acid battery, such as in an automobile, the discharged voltage is around 10.5 volts under load. {This writer does not know the specific gravities involved - someone else, please feel free to refine this answer.}

WARNING: batteries generally emit explosive gases when being charged or discharged. Take necessary precautions, and vent the battery as needed.

Starting with a fully charged battery, draw a load of some current, and find the current that will discharge the battery in eight hours. Start low, unless you have some idea of the projected rating. If the projected rating is, for instance 80 ampere-hours, draw 10 amperes.

Recharge and repeat as needed to obtain a statistically consistent result.

When you have the amount of current, say 15 amperes, that will discharge the battery in eight hours, multiply that number by 8, in this example giving 120 ampere-hours.

The reason for multiplying by eight is that is the convention for reporting a battery's capacity. You say "120 ampere-hours at an 8 hour rate", which simply means 15 amperes for 8 hours. If you were to actually pull 120 amperes, the battery would discharge in less than one hour, and if you were to pull 1.5 amperes, the battery would discharge in greater than 80 hours.

What is the voltage if 12v and 6v and 2.5v batteries are connected in parallel?

a lil shock a lil shock be blowed! A rather large explosion would DEFINITLY occour!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you convert a 48V golf cart using 6 8V batteries to 4 12V heavy duty deep cycle batteries?

Why would you want to do that? With the (4) 12V Deep Cycle's your run-time will be MUCH less.Club Car golf cart's for 2009 just switched back to the (6) 8V batt system for their new Precedent models. Too many voltage problems with the (4) - 12V's, that's why Club Car went back to the (6) 8V's.Optimum 48V set up is (8) 6V's for long run time and easy 12V accessory. With the (6) 8V's, you just get a 48V to 12V REDUCER to run whatever accessories you like. Can be found on eBay for $60.

Can you connect 8 AA 1.5V batteries so that it produces 12V and can you also charge those batteries by hooking them up to a 12V source?

If you are trying to construct a cheap car battery ... one word ... DON'T !! Yes, it will create 12 volts, but it won't have enough cranking power to start an engine, let alone run the starter motor. Best advice for re-charging: only rechard those batteries that were designed for recharging. You risk having the batteries explode otherwise. Exploding battery is not a pretty sight. Shrapnel from the casing and the inner components fly in every direction and will cause serious injury.

What is 12v 18ah battery?

12v means it is suitable for any 12v dc current purpose the 18ah means it has an amp hour rating of 18 its a measure of how long the battery can work from full charge until it would need to be charged again ex. the bigger the ah rating the longer you could turn the starter for before the battery would run flat

What is the difference between 12V automotive and 12V marine batteries?

without knowing exactly the types of batteries you are talking about but generally marine batteries are a higher quality battery and have higher amp hour ratings which basically means they can turn the stater for longer

What is the ampere rating for a 12 volt 12 watt battery?

Batteries are generally not listed as having watts. And there are a couple of different ampere ratings. But if you're running something needing 12W of a 12V battery it's pulling 1A out of the battery at the moment.

How many 12v 12ah batteries are required to run 320watts motor?

it depends how many hours do you want it to run, but basically 3 batteries should be enough for a little more then 1 hour

How do you hook up 2 12v batteries to make 24v for a wheelchairAsk us anything?

An important proviso is that the Ampere rating of both batteries should be the same. Otherwise, the plate current of the smaller battery could be exceeded. If you hook the negative terminal of one 12V battery to the positive of the other, then the assembly will have an overall voltage of 24 Volts. Be careful when dismantling the set-up if you have to do for charging.

Are 12v batteries actually 13.8v?

No, 12 volt batteries are 12 volts.

How many 100amp hour batteries do you need to connect to a 240v inverter to produce the same output as a 5?

what do you mean by 5? an inverter just steps a voltage up from a lower voltage( i assume you are talking about a 12v to 240v inverter) 1:20 ratio. so with 100Ah at 12v you should get 240v at 5amps for 1 hour more batteries in parallel will increase this figure.

How do you wire four 12 volt batteries to get 36 volts and 48amps?

Four 12V batteries may not be connected end to end to obtain 36 Volts. But four 12V batteries can be connected end to end to provide 48V and push 36 amps. The actual answer to your question suggests that you drop one 12V battery and use three, not four 12V batteries end to end to obtain 36V.

How many lights on 12 volt battery?

It depends on the Ampere Hour rating of the battery. But basically just connect as much as you wish but not more than 5 lamps and must be 12v each.

How many amps are in a 12 volt 225ah battery?

Batteries are not measured in Amps, but rather as Amps they can emit in an hour. The standard home unit for battery power is AH our Ampere Hour.At 12 volts the amps in your battery are then described in Ampere Hours or Amps per hour. From that we get that if the battery was plugged into a 12v device that drew 225 amps, your battery would run out in 1 hour.Similarly if it was connected to a device requiring 112.5 amps it would take 2 hours to run down.Wikipedia has stated that this is an approximation, that at really high currents (measured in how many Amps you are currently using) the battery life is shorter than expected and that the Ampere hour is generally supposed to consider a 20 hour cycle of discharge(therefore meaning lower amps per hour)This brings the battery back to it's "normal" drainage pattern.@ 12v and 11.25A your battery would take 20 hours to drain.

Hook two 6 volt batteries in series with different ampere hour ratings?

In general, it's a bad idea. * If you do, the available A/H will be that of the smallest battery. * If you try to charge them while they are in series with a 12V charger, you will undercharge the big one while overcharging the little one. * Since different sized batteries have different internal resistance, the smaller battery will work much harder to supply a given load, and it will fail prematurely. If you need to get 12V temporarily to test something or to try out a radio or whatever, go for it. Just dont plan to use such an arrangement long-term.

How can you convert your syphon pump that runs on a 12v car battery to run on normal household batteries?

I have no idea what a normal household battery is. Generally you would have to match the current and voltage of the car battery and then you have the issue of how long the battery can sustain the current, or ampere hours.

What is the voltage that is carried out by automobile batteries?

Virtually all automotive batteries nowadays are nominal " 12V " batteries, but will measure up to 13.6V when fully charged.
