According to my calculations.... you should weigh the watermelon in ounces, then divide the weight by the number of stripes. This will give you the number of seeds plus or minus several hundred. Unless of course this is a "seedless" watermelon we are considering.
My class looked at it and tried it but we concluded that it was not correct. We had gotten about 40 seeds with this formula, while there were actually 660

Watermelons vary in size, girth and species. The only way to get the exact number of seeds in your type of watermelon is to take all the seed out of it and hand count them.
An example if a fruit with two seeds is the watermelon. The watermelon has both white seeds and black seeds, which is the seed used to plant watermelon.
All kinds of watermelon seeds are safe to eat.

This triploid seed is the seed that produces seedless watermelons! In other words, a seedless watermelon is a sterile hybrid which is created by crossing male pollen for a watermelon, containing 22 chromosomes per cell, with a female watermelon flower with 44 chromosomes per cell.
As with all fruit seeds, watermelon uses animals to disperse seeds. When an animal eats a watermelon, the seeds generally pass through the digestive system unharmed. When the animal defecates, the seeds then come out (and embedded in the natural fertilizer).
