A U.S. silver dollar dated 1879 is a Morgan dollar. Assuming it is circulated and does not have a mintmark, values run from $25.00 to $40.00 depending on the condition of the coin.
Any US coin made for general circulation that does not have a mintmark was struck in Philadelphia.
It's a Trade Dollar not a Morgan dollar. If you look at the back of the coin, the phrase "Trade Dollar" is under the eagle. As to value, take it to a coin dealer for an assessment it may not be genuine. The entire series is known to have had copy's and fakes made.
There are two things that you need to know about your coin to determine value. The first thing to look at is the mintmark, on a Morgan Dollar, it is above the D and O on the reverse of the coin under the wreath. It will either have a CC, O or S or perhaps even no mintmark. If it has a CC mintmark, it was minted in Carson City and worth more than average. If there is a O it was minted in New Orleans, an S means it was minted in San Fransisco and no mintmark means the coin was made in Philadelphia. Once you know that, you need to know the condition. Do not clean your coin cleaning your coin will only make your coin lose value. Coins in better condition sell for a lot more than barely recognizable coins which might only sell for their silver content. Without knowing those two things, it is impossible to tell you how much your coin is worth.

The bicentennial dollar coin is still worth one dollar.
The first silver eagle was made in 1986 not 1879. It's called a MORGAN dollar after the designer George T. Morgan and assuming it's circulated and has no mintmarks, retail value is $17.00-$26.00 the date is very common.
The first US dollar coin was made in 1794.
It is made of 90% silver and 10% copper.
Please do two things: 1. Look at your pocket change. Every U.S. coin has the phrase E Pluribus Unum on it so that is not anything that distinguishes one coin from another. 2. Look at your silver dollar. Dollars with the word PEACE on them were issued to mark the end of WWI so it could not be from 1879. The only way an "1879" dollar would have a Peace reverse is if was an altered coin made by cutting apart 2 dollars and swapping sides, kind of like a magician's coin with two tails or heads.
No, the last 1 dollar gold coin was made in 1889.
