Genes determine whether you would inherit Diabetes or not. Diabetes is dependent on the immune system. The immune system is in turn dependent on genes. If there is any imbalance in the immune system, it triggers an autoimmune reaction. Other factors like gender, diet and body reaction also play a role in determining if you would inherit diabetes or not.

There are two types of diabetes. Type I is insulin-dependent. This is thought to be caused by an auto-immune response to Beta cells of the islets of langerhans. Beta cells produce insulin, therefore if no or insufficient amounts of insulin is released then glucose is unable to be broken down, therefore insulin injections are required. Type II diabetes are Insulin-Independent individuals, this type is caused by the lack of reponsiveness of glycoproteins on the cell surface membranes, that are complementary to insulin. Being overweight can cause this type of diabetes.

While there is no specific gene for diabetes, there are hereditary factors that can make a person more susceptible to developing it in life though the disease itself is triggered by environmental factors. From males with type one diabetes, the chance of having a child with the disease is 5.9%. For women with type one, the chance is at 4% if giving birth before 25, and reduces to 1% if giving birth after.

However, with type two, genes play a much bigger role. If both parents have type two, there's a 50% chance a child will develop it. If one of the parents develops type two diabetes before age 50, the chance of passing on the trait is at 14.3%. However, if the parent is diagnosed after, the chance drops to 7.7%. Research done has shown the chance of a child developing type two is increased if the parent with diabetes is the mother.

Type one diabetes is an auto-immune condition, and while risk of developing the condition is inherited from parents, triggers have been hypothesized that range from cold weather to a virus.

Type two is a case where the body grows resistant to the actions of insulin, and eventually starts producing less of it. In most cases of type two diabetes, weight is the contributing factor, in that 55% of all people diagnosed are obese. Diet is also considered to take part in an increased risk of diagnosis. If type two runs in your family, simply exercising and eating well can delay or entirely prevent the disease.

There is no clear cut answer why people end up with diabetes, but there are 6 different assupmtions that professionals believe are the cause of this disease.

1. Family History: Scientist believe that people are 25% more prone to getting diabetes if it RUNS in the family.

2. Diet/ Exercise: Eating too much carbs, proteins, and fats are harmful on the body. Too much of food, or certain food consumption will upset the pancreas causing it not to work 100% and leading to misfunctioning of insulin secretion. This makes the blood pressure raise. In conclusion causing diabetes. Exercising is VERY important to keep you fit and able to handle stress better.

3. Virus Infections: Such as coxsackie B Virsus that can affect the pancreas that messes up the Beta cells, which increases insulin release levels causing high blood sugar levels.

4. Emotional Stress: Depression, anxiety, grief, etc can mess up blood sugar levels and cause diabetes. GOOD ways to get a control on emotional stress NATURALLY is by eating healthy, exercising, yoga, meditation, taking your vitamins (very important!!), and smiling =]

5. Smokers: have a high risk of developing joint immobility and retinopathy.

6. Race: Hispanic, Pacific Islander, African American, and native Americans are at higher risk.

5.
