One Viewpoint:

Faith, or "belief", is the acceptance of a statement without requiring evidence. It follows that faith is neither scientific nor rational.

A believer writes: "Yet there is "enough evidence" for God's existence that unfortunately does not "prove" his existence."

This begs two questions: (i) please give some examples of such evidence; and (ii) why is such evidence insufficient to amount to proof?

If there were scientific evidence that a god existed (such as "him" revealing himself to the world in a provable way), one would not need faith in god any more than one would need faith in gravity.

So, how do you develop your faith in God in your lives? Well, you either believe in him or you don't. If you're not sure, you'll be an agnostic or atheist. But if you absolutely believe in god, then you don't need to develop it; although you may then wish to develop your lifestyle to conform with the strictures of organised religion. For instance, if you become a male Jew, you will have to get circumcised; if you become a Roman Catholic, you will have to accept that at Mass you are actually eating the flesh and blood of Jesus. Is this what you want?

Another Viewpoint:

First, before you can have faith, you have to know what you have faith IN.

Get to know who God, the creator, is.

-Pray for faith(Luke 17:5). You can't get to know someone without TALKING to them. Even though you may not be sure of God at this point, if you sincerely want to know him, he will 'let himself be found' by you (Acts 17:26-27)(2 Chronicles 15:2&15)(Psalm 145:18)(Psalm 51:17)

-Study the natural world around you...get to know God through his works....see the intricacies of life...how complex and wonderful everything is...the love that went into this earth, created for the joy of humankind.(Romans 1:20) (Psalm 115:16)

-Meanwhile, to get to know someone, you have to LISTEN to them too. Build trust in the Bible, God's word, by reading it daily. Often the Christian Greek scriptures are a good place to begin (starting with Matthew , Mark, Luke...etc) as they are a bit more familiar and somewhat easier to understand. If you read three chapters a day, you'll be done with the whole "New Testament" in a fairly short time.

Then read it again, a little daily....like conversing with a friend.

-As you read, continue to pray to God asking to get to know him, to get to know his people(Titus 2:14)(John 13:35) and understand his word(Proverbs 2:1-6) (James 1:5) so your faith can continue to grow stronger.(Psalm 37:3-4) As it does, it will, just naturally, affect your life, your thinking and your personality(Colossians 3:9-10) (Ephesians 4:23-24), which, in turn, will effect your future hopes(Psalm 37:8-11&29) and bring joy to your life.

If you have faith in God, then you know that there is a purpose for this world - and a purpose for your life in it.

I think that the discovery of God in your life and in the world would be understanding your purpose 'down here'.
