Flea bites will tend to be clustered in one area, almost always below the waist, or on the lower back. They are small, and somewhat darker red than chicken pox. Chicken pox will cover the upper trunk fairly uniformly, and usually appear on the face, too (rare for flea bites). Also, in about 50% of cases, examination of the inside of the patient's mouth will show pox on the inside of the cheeks or back of the throat - if so, it is unquestionably chicken pox - but they occur in the mouth only about half the time as I said.
