Metals usually have a characteristic lustre, so you can often tell just by looking. The metals conduct electricity when solid, and non-metals, with the exception of graphite, do not. Metals react with oxygen to give basic oxides, whereas non-metals give acidic oxides.

How do most periodic tables differentiate between metals and nonmetals?

Metals are present at the extreme left side while non-metals are located at the extreme right side of the periodic table.

what does metallic consist of?

Metals have large number of free electrons, which are responsible for conduction of heat, electric current, etc. Hence metals are good conductors. Non-metal don't have such free electrons in them. Hence they are bad conductors. There are many such properties which differentiate metals from non-metals. for example, metals have a typical metallic luster ( except few), etc.

Which are better metals or non metals?

My opinion would be metal. Since non metals are brittle and dull, I disagree with the non-metals.

Where are the most reactive non metals?

The most reactive non metals are Halogens which may combine most of the metals as well as non metals.
