It is illegal to disable the airbag without permission from the NHTSA. You must have approval in writing and follow the approved procedure with an installed on/off switch. I doubt you would ever get approval for a car. What good reason would there be to disable the airbag? Airbags save lives which has been proven over and over. Keep small children out of the front seat and leave the air bags alone. This is very true, but sometimes you do need to disable them during repairs. There is a fuse that controls the airbag for all cars. Not sure which it is on a Sunfire so you'll have to look at your owners manual.
