Don't know if this will help, but I'm in the same boat as you. I just inherited one, with no instructions. I "googled" Marlin Rifles and their Model 60 looks to be pretty close in appearance - I notice the safety is in a different place. I was able to download that manual, and plan on trying it on my 987.
