I just purchased a Sportsman 58 and have been looking for the same answer. Here's a website that may help (I have not verified that it's a good description): www.100megspop3.com/oldvalkyry/m58.html
Also, AJ Arms Books (something like that, online) sells take down manuals for $7.95
You probably already have an answer to this question, but I also have a Remington 58 and have an owner's manual coming from Remington Arms for free. Just go to their site and request an outdated firearms manual. And to answer your question about assembly, you have to unscrew the knurled knob at the end of the magazine under the barrel. If you can't move it, use pliers, but be sure to cushion the teeth with some heavy cloth to prevent damaging the knob. Good Luck
what is the market value of a remington 20 gauge semi-automatic sportsman 58 shotgun?
Take it to a professional
Take it to a gunsmith

First of all you have the "sportsman 48", "sportsman 58" and the "sportsman". If it is a plain sportsman it's value depending on it's condition is from 150 to 200 dollars.
what year is tha Remington sportsman 58 serial 143766v
If shotgun is in good working condition and no rust or cracks, then it would have a value of between $225 - $300.
awesome guns, great collector excellent condition worth $3000 I have one for sale :)
Follow the instructions in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, find a gun shop. They will most likely be glad to help.
You have answered your own question.
The value of a 20 gauge Remington Sportsman 58 would actually depend on a number of things. A couple of those things would be the age and condition.
Numrich gun parts. Look under Remington SPT 58.
By the serial number and markings on the barrel.
Made from 1956-63. Unless you find one on the web, your best bet is to go to Remington.com and request a manual.
according to blue book of gun values 271,000 approximate sportsman 58 were manufactured between 1956 and 1963
Don't know for sure which you mean... Sportsman 1930-1947 Sportsman 48 1948-1968 Sportsman 58 1956-1963
According to my reference,s Remington firearms made the model 58ADL sportsman shotgun from 1956-1963,they also produced the model 58 X-series,the model 58BDL,58SA-skeet gun,58SC,58D tournament,58F premier shotgun but not a model 5800.
This model Cross refernces out to a Remington Sportsman 58, introduced in 1956, the Sportsman-58 was Remington's first gas-operated shotgun. You can request an owners manual for obsolete firearms at www.remington.com click on sportsmans library, then downloads, then owners manuals, then click obsolete owners manuals, you will have to register but it is worth it to get the free manual.
lightly oil any parts that move
Model 58 is an automatic not a bolt action
