First response naturally is "very carefully". It's best to lock the receiver bolt in the open position. Pulls back on the bolt handle until it locks. *Always keep the barrel pointed in a safe direction. Remove the magazine cap and slowly let the barrel slide forward. *Remember keep hands clear of the muzzle and barrel in a safe direction. pull barrel off the magazine tube. Now the shell can be either pulled out by the fingers or a cleaning rod with a cusioned tip can push it back out from the muzzle.
