What does 'The one to be fooled is wise enough to see beyond the smoke and mirrors' mean?

Magic tricks, or illusions, fool the audience by various means. These might include wires, hidden doors, mirrors, smoke, or just about anything else, but idiomatically they are known as "smoke and mirrors." The term "smoke and mirrors" is more often used to describe other tricks used to try to distract or delude someone than to describe an actual magic show. You might say "The Congressman's speech about the economy is just smoke and mirrors," meaning it's just an attempt to delude anyone who will listen. If you're wise enough to see past the smoke and mirrors, that means you're too wise to be fooled.
