Jump, and while in the air, attack. At least that's how it works for the PC. For example: <spacebar> = jump, <left mouse button> = attack; I would hit <spacebar>, wait one second so I'm not too high, then hit <left mouse button>. Timing is everything, and if you Force jump too high (use the Force to jump 4 times gets you REALLY high off the ground) then the midair spin is pretty much useless because you won't hit anything except the birds. And the birds can't die.
