Asuming this is an automatic transmission, Using a large wide drain pan, loosen all the bolts holding the trans pan up, allow some fluid to drain, remove bolts, remove pan. Aprox 4 qts will drain out. This will be all the fluid you can drain out which is less than half of the fluid the trans holds. A large portion of the fluid is still in the torque converter.

There is a plug on the side of the tranny. take it out. If fluid runs out, put the plug back in the hole and get on with life. If no fluid runs out, check your manual for what transmission fluid to use. Fill it till it runs out at the plug a bit. Be sure to use the transmission fluid recommended for Chevy S10 5 speed manual transmissions.
Could be bad hydraulics? Possible it just wore out. or tranny fluid, tranny seal, clutch pads, tranny silinoid. autozone.com has an online q&a about autos, check it out
No drain plug. Filter is located inside the transmission pan on the bottom of the tranny.
A manual tranny ( T-5 ) takes 2.2 qrts.
80W-90 gear oil
Assuming this is an automatic transmission, you can add ATF through the transmission dipstick tube. The dipstick itself will tell you what type of fluid to add.
If it is an automatic transmission than it should be pink. Dexron tranny fluid is a pink to dark red fluid. If it changes from pink to orange or black, than you need to worry. Pink can also be bad. If your automatic transmission fluid is looking like a strawberry milkshake pink, then you may need to overhaul your tranny. The discoloration is due to water getting into the transmission, most of the time it is because there is a broken line where your tranny fluid goes to cool off in the radiator.
for models older then 1996 you use 90 weight gear oil. 1996 and up you use tranny fluid.

it sends reding to the computer. like the presure of the tranny fluid and the computer tells the tranny when to shift . befor 93 they used a cabel hooked to the throtel linkage to do the same thing.
