It shouldn't matter. I personally think that your looks and how you dress shouldn't matter as long as you TRULY have the passion for metal.
But to answer your question: Honestly, I too have short hair because I don't want to grow my hair. Instead, I shave it. Not bald but to a really short length. Pulling this off is easy for me because I have thick facial hair. Not just stubbles, but thick facial hair that covers my skin really. Having a shaved head with no facial hair doesn't make you look metal though, it just makes you look like you have cancer or something.
