The best ways to ease Arthritis knee pain are:

Strengthening exercises - increasing the strength of the muscles reduces the forces going through the knee which reduces the friction and pain

Heat/Ice

Keeping active - the knee needs movement to keep the fluid pumping through it - this fluid dries out with inactivity so keeping the knee moving, even when sitting doen can really help

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective with knee arthritis

Weight loss - losing weight means there is less pressure going through the knee which can reduce pain

Walking aids eg sticks/crutches help reduce the amount of weight going through the knee making it less painful

Pacing - not over exerting yourself

Wearing the right footwear - cushioned soles with no heels are best

Stairs - take them one at a time

Medication - painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories

Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements

Cortisone injections - a mixture of local anaesthetic and steroid is injected into the knee to help decrease arthritis knee pain and swelling

Surgery: a partial or total knee replacement is the last resort if other treatments fail
