You don't. You tell it both sides of the story and let the child decide what it wants to believe in after you've finished. Just because you believe in something doesn't mean the child has to as they were born free to believe as they wish.

To explain to a child God's protection and where He is not an easy task as even some adults have a hard time grasping and understanding how things work. You tell them clearly what you, yourself, believe to be true and anything you feel is too complicated for them to understand, you let them know this and tell explain how it may be better understood when they are older. Anything you feel is even too complicated for you, yourself, to understand and explain, you let them know this as well and tell them how human beings haven't the answers to everything, so it's only natural you wouldn't be able to give every exact detail. They will still have questions in the end, but that is normal as all human beings do.
