It depends.. everyone has different ways of feeding their snakes. A lot of people feed them right inside their cages, but this can cause them to swallow something that isn't their foot, which can lead to problems.. and sometimes even death.
Another way to feed them is to take the snake out of its cage and put it into another box type of thing.. (I put mine in an old shoebox or plastic box)
That way it won't swallow anything else..
You can use live prey, or frozen and then thawed prey.
If you use live prey you have to be sure that it is small enough to not hurt the snake.
If you use thawed prey, twice the girth of the snake is about the *biggest* you should go. (Others have different opinions) And of course, the size of the snake always matters.
You can use tweezer type things you can buy at a petstore specifically for feeding snakes. (That way the snake doesn't 'miss' the mouse/rat and get your finger)
People use a huge variety of prey. These include: chicks, rats, mice, rabbits, some birds, and for some pretty rare snakes, eggs.

Yes.
No.
No, but you could feed it a rat.......
For the same reason YOU feed - to get energy in order to survive !
I think your friend is weird. Did she ask to feed the poor snake this food? Next time be more careful. Take the snake to the vet and get it checked out. Feed the snake insects next time. Oh, and friend- please be aware of what you feed little animals.
snake
No , never .
Rodents - their natural diet.
small mice
These snakes will eat small rodents like mice and frogs. If the snake is big enough you can feed it rats. Hence the name rat snake.
No because if you feed a Corn Snake live mice then it can also put up a fight.Which gives the mouse an opportunity to hurt your snake. So you should probaly feed your snake frozen dead mice.
