Fluoxetine is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor), which is a class of antidepressants. One may feel dizzy, nauseous, lightheaded, and other side-effects after first starting taking it. It takes time for antidepressants to kick in usually. You have to give it about a month and if you aren't feeling any different, it's time to try a new antidepressant or an adjunct anxiolytic if one has anxiety problems. It may work, or it may not. You just gotta give it 6 weeks for full effects (and this is for most antidepressants) and benefits, and if you need to ante up the dosage if you feel it helps or after a month you aren't feeling anything or any BETTER, than a switch or adjunct is in order. Gradual dose titration is key with antidepressants of all kinds.

Take for example, the 20 mg fluoxetine dose I was prescribed for a general guide (your dose may be different). You should start out at 5mg (split 10mg tablets) bump up in a week to 10mg, which is the whole tablet. A week or even two weeks to pending on your sensitivity bump up to 20 minutes; it only took me a week following the rise to 10mg then I bumped up to 20mg. Nothing really felt different at first.

Prozac kicked in I guess in a month or a month in a half. It didn't do much other than make me a bit flat and stuff like decreasing libido and whatnot. I wasn't zombie-ish, although Lexapro made me zombie-ish.
