To field strip a Smith & Wesson Model 459 9mm, first ensure the firearm is unloaded by removing the magazine and visually checking the chamber. Next, pull the slide back slightly and engage the slide stop lever to lock it in place. Then, release the slide stop and carefully pull the trigger to allow the slide to move forward. Finally, while holding the frame, press the takedown lever down and slide the upper assembly off the frame.
