if its lost but you think its still in the tank, they love to dig and it is somewhere in the floor of your tank. hermit crabs are escape artists, so if you have a branch at the top of the tank, it would climb up and fall out the edge. if its lost and is not in the tank, theres not really much to do except watch the floor carefully and put a lid on the top of the tank so it doesnt happen again, or the crab could just be in another shell.

first of all, there should already be a lid on the cage so you wouldn't have this problem! but, if the hermit crab got out, i would suggest closing the door to the room so it stays in the room and put food on the floor. if the crab has a favorite type of food, that would be better to put on the floor. if that doesnt work, start up a search party and find that little sucker! good luck.

I lost mine 3 times in one day. We looked everywhere. They are nocturnal so we turned off the lights in one room and waited. The crab finally came to the dark room and we found it. If this dosent work put food (tuna or peanut butter) on foil and if the crab goes to get food you will hear it on the foil.

They usually only lose a claw when they are stressed or have been fighting. You may need to isolate them until you figure out what the problem is. As far as treatment, the claw will grow back when they molt again.

It probably isn't a good idea to try to find it if you know it is under the sand. If you have a glass tank then you can try to pick it up and see if it is under the sand that way. If it is under the sand it is probably molting and you don't want to bother it because its skin is sensitive at that time. But if there are no tracks in the sand and you have one of those logs that lean against the sides and it is missing from its tank then you are in trouble...

if common sense (looking everywhere carefully) doesnt work - you could call in a security guard dog service - they have trained dogs that can sniff out where you hamster is and will not eat it when it finds it. If you ask a professional air conditioning or electrical company, they might come in you home and look for it with an infared (heat signature) camera and not charge you too much. PS - leave some little dishes of water and food all over, so when it comes out of hiding (probably at night while you sleep) it wont starve to death. hunting stores sell small animal traps that wont hurt it.

Look everywhere! Under sofas, chairs, tables, in chest of drawers, in cupboards, under the stairs, anywhere you can think of really. When you have done that, if you still haven't found it, put bowls of peanut butter, jam, syrup, hamster treats, custard, cheese, any foods that smell sweet to attract your hamster. Place these in every room. It is also a good idea to set up a couple of video chats in each room and watch them from in the room you are in. If they come out and go for the food, you will see it on the video and you can go and get the hamster. However, if this doesn't work you could get a plumber or electriction to scan the house, inside pipes and walls in case your hamster has got into any holes. Again, if they cannot trace anything then sit extremely quietly and listen for any scratching or pattering of feet. At night, put down lots of tinfoil and other rustly materials so f your hamster comes out of its hiding place, you will hear it's feet walking along it. Another idea is to leave trails of flour over the floor at night, then in the morning if your hamster has come out, its footprints will be marked out in the flour.Hope you have found this advice useful and hope your hamster returns to you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have lost my hamster just yesterday and up to now it has not returned but I have gone through a lot of these tips and we expect him to be back by the morning because remember, hamsters are nockturnal creatures so most of the day they will be asleep so the main time that you wll be able to catch them is at night.Thankyou! :)

Get peanut butter or tuna fish as put it on a plate and pit tin foil under it so you can hear it when he walks on it. Then take a plastic lid and put water in it and put it under a conter and then put a piece of tinfoil under it. Hope this was helpful

You found your hermit crab dead without it shell on what did you do wrong?

well, did you have spare shells for him to move into? if not, he couldn't desperately find a new home. if you do and you have other hermit crabs in the tank, then your best bet is that he was in a fight for a shell that another hermit crab was interested in and, obviously, lost the fight. sorry for the loss of your hermit crab and i am sure that it wasn't your fault entirely.

What if your hermit crab has lost its back leg will another grow in its place?

Yes, a hermit crab will grow its let back if it has lost one when it molts. It's easier to see if your hermit crab has signs of molting. If its lost a leg you will see that the leg will start to turn into a gelatin like substance. Which tells you its going inot the stage of molting.

Your hermit crab lost his arm is it dead?

It is considered a limb, not an arm. And the loss of a limb does not necessarily mean the hermie crab has died, but is a hermit crab that is very stressed. One needs to double check their tank perimeters to make sure they are correct.
