Hermit crabs get their name by being of the crab family. The hermit part is because of how they live in a shell, alone. But they are very social creatures and live in the wild in hoards. A hermit crab should never be bought alone, being alone makes them get stressed and die easily.
they loose their legs like we loose teeth
You should let it mold. It is part of life for a Hermit crab.
not long you should try a to find a way to put him back in his shell or he will die. My Hermit crab left his shell and never made it back. In other words: He left the house and never came back...
yes
Well yes they do, beceause the back part of them is very soft. Give it a shell it likes. They are very picky about shells. my hermit crab went through 3 shells befor it found the right one.
A hermit crab grows out of it's shell and looks for a new discarded snail's shell. Snails produce the shells and once the snails die the shells become homes for hermit crabs. Hermit crabs molt their exoskeleton Large Jumbo crabs molt about once a month and smaller crabs molt a few times a month. They collect water and food into their shell and burrow deep into the sand where they shed their old skeleton and eat it. They eat their old skeleton to regain nutrients that they lost during the molting process. If a hermit crab looses it's legs (which doesn't usually happen during the molting process) they will regenerate.
Yes you can feed a hermit crab a cherry.Only if you take the hard part in the middle out.and if you cut it into small pieces.Because they are scavengers, they will eat anything.Thank you and I am happy to help.
The 2 dots on a female hermit crab are called gonopores and they are where the male crab deposits his sperm in order to fertilize her eggs.
Yes! It is very important that a hermit crab has a shell, it is used to protect their bodies. It also saves them from getting eaten by other animals! Though sometimes, you find hermit crabs that haven't found a shell that isn't the right size or shape, and instead of a shell, they might carry things like bottle tops. Usually, hermit crabs try to avoid situations like this but, when they urgently need to change into another shell because their current shell is too small, it will be unavoidable.
A crab has three main parts on its body: * carapace - the main part of the body consisting of a hard shell * thorax - consisting of its head and the middle part of the body * cephalothorax - that part which joins the head and the middle section together. Other main crab body parts are leg parts unique to crabs - the front two legs of the crab, nearest the head, are called chelipeds and are sometimes used for walking but mostly for eating. The claw on the cheliped is called chela, and these are used to grasp or hold something. If a crab loses its claw, a new one will grow.
i believe that when you clean out your hermit's aquarium you should not CLEAN out your hermits house just clean the dirty part(about 25% of it)
