The only place Serial key is stored is inside the booklet. Therefore, you yourself can't possibly find the serial code.
You can try to contact EA and let them know of your situation and ask them to provide you with an alternative serial code.

You are properly looking in the wrong place, most of the time it is on the booklet (back of booklet) If you have lost the booklet, i can only suggest a serial code, it is not illegal if you already brought the product, the law says as long as its for personal use, then your fine.
