That would really depend on what the items were. They could be in buy mode, build mode, create a Sim (for Sims, clothing, hair, etc.), or edit town (if it was a lot).

I can only give you the PC instructions. you click on the newspaper, choose find own place, it will come up with a menu, you choose which sims you want to move out with, you exit the lot, the sims will appear in the sim menu in the neighbourhood, click on them and put them in the lot you want them to move into. have fun and happy simming!!
