Hansel and Gretel found their way home by using a trail of breadcrumbs to guide them back. However, the breadcrumbs were eaten by birds, so they got lost in the forest.

If you get lost you can simply ask the horse to move out on it's own and let it wander. Usually a horse will know when the rider is lost and will find its way back to the trailer or trail head.
