I made the blue screen of death (BSOD) go away quickly by using the bootable diagnostic CD that I made with PC Doctor5. It came pre-loaded on my Compaq SR2041 desktop PC, but I used it successfully on a Fujitsu Lifebook S notebook PC.
PC Doctor has an option to create the bootable rescue CD, which I highly recommend if you have access to that software.
