Replace the shocks and struts! :-D
Code P0171 means System to lean (bank 1)
If you are getting a Lean code then it is probably being caused by the intake plennum gaskets. This is a common problem on the Windstar. The fix is relatively easy.
Trouble code P1131 means: Lack Of HO2S11 Switches - Sensor Indicates Lean
Trouble code P0171 means: Fuel System Too Lean (Cylinder Bank 1)
Ford Motor
mass airflow sensor mine did the same thing and that's what fixed it for me...
Had the same problem - could be either the gas tank cap is not tight, and not sealing airtight, or it could be a bad oxygen sensor in the engine, causing the air/fuel mixture to be off. Went through this with my '98 too. I had the O2 sensors replaced to pass emissions and it came back on.. I probably have a problem with my intake valve, running too lean and tripping that sensor.
you need to change your plugs of change your plug wires reguarding bank 1 lean fuel mixture you will have to change your 02sencer
There is a known problem with the 3.8 engines in 1999-2003 Windstars.See "Related Questions" belowAnswerI was just told today that my 2000 Ford Windstar is running lean, too. He said it's most likely a vacuum seal problem so i was told to change my PVC valve and my plenum gasket
No. It was a construction problem and began to lean before it was finished.
No it would indicate maybe a lean mixture in the fuel but no major problems
Your 1998 Ford Contour may sputter in cold or damp conditions due to several factors. Cold temperatures can affect the fuel mixture, leading to improper combustion if the engine's air-fuel mixture is too rich or too lean. Dampness can also cause issues with ignition components, such as spark plugs or wires, leading to misfires. Additionally, moisture can affect the electrical connections and sensors, exacerbating the sputtering issue.
