firstly, u gotta determine wats wrong with the ignition barrel....
iv'e got an EA and the key just wouldn't turn in the end....if its at this stage its preety well stuffed(the barrel that is) your best bet is to remove the plug/switch thingo at the rear of the barrel by removing the two tiny screws, i could only access one screw so undid it and than pryed the switch off. by this stage you'll b able to start the engine by using a screw driver in the switch. though if the barrel poo'd itself in the lock position u wont b able to steer. to remve barrel, you'll notice it like clamped around the steering column. its impossible to unscrew the bolt retaing the barrel so u gotta drill and chisel at the head of the clamp bolt to remove the barel. once the head of the bolt is sheared of u should then b right to pry the clamp off the steering column.
***** it is essential to remove the barrel from the steering column if it is intended that the vehicle is going to b driven, as the faulty barrel may, even though not in the lock position, lock up the steering column mid-drive
i havnt gone so far yet to replace the barrel.....just been startn her with a screw driver for the past couple of months
p.s. make sure the barrell is removed before being driven!!!!!!

Check power to ignition switch with ignition turned on check the on position at back of barrel for power for starters, EA falcons have a thick film module which i think is located in the dizzy, which if faulty could burn a coil out.. good luck

How do you remove an ignition barrel on an ea falcon?
Remove the plastic shroud underneath the steering colum by pulling out the plastic rivnuts. This exposes the ignition barrel. There are two options from here. The common issue is actually the key lock which can be removed by turning the key to position 'I' on the lock (accessories on). On the rear side there is a round recess which has a pin in it. Push the pin in using a set of circlip pliers or similar 90 degree tool. With this pin pushed in the lock can be pulled out of the ignition barrel. When inserting a new lock make sure the key is in the same 'I' position. If you need to remove the whole ignition barrel the upper plastic shroud needs to be removed and you will have to chisel off the fasteners located on the top of the barrel and steering column as these are shear fasteners which are one use only.
