Alignment of the latch strikes, door tracks, flush fit, and height, can be pretty involved. Define 'fix'. Mine was making a terrible, metal-tometal grinding sound when used. I had to replace the top slider (I think there are three - one on top, and one in the middle and , of course, one on the bottom -- so check them all!). It was a bit of a bear to do by myself, but it was worth it. The part cost me about $30. If it is stuck shut try this. I have a 1991 Aerostar that had the same problem. You have to remove the inside door panels. follow the door mechanism from the front to the back (You won't be able to see it at the back) What I did was to cut a small hole (1-2 inches) near the back of the door to be able to see the rod. I found that were the rod connects to an "L" shaped part the "L" was bent outwards (toward the outside of the door). By bending it back towards the inside of the door I was able to get the door open. I had the same problem on MY 91 Aerostar and that was the fix it needed.....and gave me an excuse to buy the Dremel I always wanted.....lol. After cutting the access hole I was able to see the rod was bent. Thanks!
We have a 92 Ford Aerostar minivan and our sliding door locked up for a year - even ford could not fix it. My dad reset the computer (disconnect the battery for five minutes) and it has worked for almost a year now.
how do you fix a gas guage on a 1989 ford aerostar
The passenger sliding door of a Ford Windstar LX needs frequent cleaning and checking of the rubbers to prevent jamming. If a door jams a lot during sliding, take out the rubber linings and clean them up before re-attaching.

the door on my 94 aerostar only opens from the outside and only if you hold the lock button up on the inside while you pull the handle. it is a pain it the but. i am going to take it apart this weekend and maybe i can help you next week. it is probably just a hook or latch that came off inside the door.
Sliding doors doors a really hard to fix so you would've to fix it by putting it on it side and then pull it up
I have the same problem! I've seen this question several times and a user named "Sspencer69" gave this answer: "If it is stuck shut try this. I have a 1991 Aerostar that had the same problem.
