Check the connections to the TV. Also, there's a chance your contact pins could be dirty. Check with multiple games to see if it's just one game or the entire system. Either way, there may be cleaning kits out there. Don't blow on the contacts, though, because the moisture in your breath can make them corrode.
There are many solution, try one of them and see which will work for you.
- Remove the expansion pack and put it back in.
- Blow on the cartridge and on the cartridge slot.
- try a different game.
- try different cables
- cleaning the connections on the game with a q-tip and isopropyl

Sound like the audio portion of the A/V cable is faulty.
- Push the A/V cable cord in the N64 and into the A/V inputs
- Attach the power cord to the wall and the N64
- Remove the game pak and reinsert it
- Unplug the controller from the N64, plug back in
If the N64 powers on and no image problem continues, but you can hear sound then the sound portion of the A/V cord is damaged. Get a new cable.
