It is not easy even though there is an airport. Doing an Expedia search suggests it is far easier to fly to and from Kenai (ENA) which is very near. Even Alaska Airlines does not have it as a destination. Cruise ships call there on a regular basis but the cruise companies will nearly always transport passengers to Anchorage to get a flight to/from the cruise ship.
About 61 road miles.

I don't think there is a "best" cruise. You just have to decide what YOU want to do. There are roundtrip Alaska cruises that start and end in Seatlle or Vancouver. And there are also ONE WAY cruises that start in Vancouver and end up in Seward or Whittier. THen you fly home from ANC. Or you could fly to ANC and join the ship there and end the cruise in Vancouver. In any case the best is what YOU want it to be.
A Fly cruise is a cruise that you have to fly out to get to the port. For example, if I, a resident of the UK, wanted to go on a cruise to Alaska, instead of getting a boat from here to Alaska that would take me a week at least, I can fly out to Alaska and get on a cruise which leaves from there.

There are many ports in which cruises for Alaska leave from. The main ones are Seattle, Vancouver, Seward, and Whittier. There are also some minor ones, like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Juneau.
