Due to the advancement of technology the cost of a digital camera has come down considerably over the past few years. While the cameras keep getting better and better, the process of actually choosing a camera to purchase has become more confusing. When shopping for digital cameras and wondering what you should be looking for, there are various factors to take into consideration. When looking for a new digital camera, one aspect that must be considered is the amount of megapixels generated by the camera. A megapixel is a measurement of the clarity of a picture. The more megapixels it has the denser and clear the picture will be. Over the past few years, the average affordable digital camera has seen the number of megapixels increase from just 3 or 4 to over 10. While it may seem that the more megapixels that you could get, the better the camera will be, having too many could be a waste of money. Unless you are planning on blowing pictures up to larger sizes, then you would be fine with a camera that has just 7 or 8 megapixels. The speed of the camera should also be considered. When choosing a camera, you should read reviews to determine how quickly the camera can turn on, focus, zoom, and take a picture after the button is clicked. Those who want to have the ability to take many pictures in a short period of time should consider purchasing a DSLR camera, which tends to have a much quicker reload and processing speed than a standard point and click camera. Functionality and settings of the camera should also be considered. Depending on how you plan on using the camera, you may only need very simple functionality and setting options. However, if you would like to take more advanced photos, you should take the functionality into consideration. You should look for a camera that will allow you to take panoramic images, black and white picture, or those that have designed flash settings for certain conditions. Also, if you would like to take short videos, you should look a camera which allows for that as well.
