To get scratches off of games or DVDs you may want to get a disk repair machine. I recommend the ZDag 102 it cost about a $100 but it will pay for it self over time by saving your disks. I would skip on the DVD skip doctors as I have used it and was not impressed.
I run a small resell shop and use it to fix DVDs and games. Saving over a hundred from the trash can.

Yes if you tilt the console while a playing disk is in it will severely scratch the game disk making it almost unplayable
*Does GameStop fix a scratched disk? No. But if you bought a game from GameStop you can return it and get a replacement for free.
A circular scratch on a game disk most often comes from a defective disk drive. It usually means that whatever device read the disk had an ojbect stuck in the disk drive that did not belong there or that the drive is not perfectly suspending the disk above the reader. The drive spins your disk around inside the Xbox and if something is sticking up in there or if the disk is leaning to the side and it rubs against something while spining, it will put that kind of scratch on the disk.

Okay, this may be similar to my problem. That happened on my game before. So it turns out i had a scratch on the disk. Check yours to see if that happened. Even if it is a small scratch it can effect the game. You will most likely take the game out and clean it. If that doesn't work, get a new disk, get the game repaired with a disk cleaner/fixer. And if that still doesn't work your PlayStation probably needs cleaned, there is most likely dust or dirt in it. Causing the PlayStation not to function properly and read the disk correctly.
On a game disk, you don't, you'd have to buy a new one.
That is not a scratch
